Expensive luggage can draw unwanted attention, so use discreet tags or suitcase covers to conceal the brand and design, don’t use expensive branded covers. Theft risks are higher in crowded or high-crime areas, regardless of your luggage’s value. Never leave baggage unattended and at the very minimum never let it leave your sight. TSA-approved locks will also prevent curious hands from poking around inside.
While theft is rare during air travel, it is more common at busy train or bus stations, or on buses and trains, particularly when travelling to and from airports. To safeguard your belongings, keep your luggage within sight at all times. On buses, trains, or the Tube, use the designated luggage spaces when possible and stay close by. If designated luggage spaces aren’t an option, keep your bag within easy reach so you can grab it quickly.
Clearly label your suitcase with your name and contact details. Both in and out! Personally, I write down my mobile number, email, and emergency contacts on an A4 paper and place it inside my suitcase before locking it for easier recovery if lost. Suitcase covers can deter thieves, and built-in locks add another layer of security. Never write down your home address as thieves will know your home is likely to be empty making it a target.
