Why Bring Should You Bring Your Own Water on a Plane?

Ever taken a flight and arrived feeling like a shrivelled raisin? Dehydration on planes is a real issue, and the water they serve might not be the best solution. Savvy travellers bring their own.

The Risk of Plane Water Tanks:

Although the water served on planes is filtered, the water storage tanks are notoriously difficult to clean thoroughly, creating a breeding ground for bacteria. For peace of mind, avoid the water, tea, and coffee served onboard and only drink the bottled water being served.

Hydration is Key for Comfort:

Airplane cabins are incredibly dry (10-20% humidity). This can quickly lead to dehydration, resulting in headaches, dry skin, fatigue, and even exacerbating jet lag. Staying hydrated combats these effects, keeping you refreshed and comfortable. It also helps with circulation.

The Ice is Safe – But the Drinks Aren’t:

While ice is pre-packaged and safe, drinks made from the plane’s water aren’t.  Stick to bottled water or other drinks that don’t rely on the plane’s water system.

The Convenience of Bringing Your Own Water:

You can’t bring full water bottles through security. Empty yours before, and refill it at a water fountain after security. Many airports have filling stations.  Your own bottle means convenient hydration without relying on flight attendants.

Final Thoughts

For better hydration and to avoid potential bacteria, bring your own water. Skip in-flight drinks and stay refreshed. What are your favourite travel hydration tips? Share them in the comments!
